Apples, Shopping, and Football

Saturdays are probably my favorite day of the week…especially when we have nothing official on the books for plans. Today was one of those kinds of days. Nothing planned, but lots of great things going on with the family.
When we moved in to the yellow house, we inherited an apple tree in the front yard. Last year, due to the drought conditions, we didn’t get any good fruit off the tree. This year though we had enough rain to make up for the last 5 years of droughts. Which means lots. Of. Apples.
Because we got two big ‘ol 5 gallon buckets full of apples, I went to scouring the Internet for ideas. So far, we’ve made apple butter and pumpkin apple butter. Tomorrow will be homemade apple sauce and the guts for apple pie. Holy moly the house smells so good! It is fall heaven in here, y’all! I had a cute little helper learning how to properly hold a knife. She did pretty good, despite how nervous it made me.
When all the apples are cooked and canned, I will try and do a post about the process. Depending how it all turns out. ūüôā
While the girl and I were working hard, the boys ran ’round doing boy man things. That left the girl and I to go to the best place on earth. And no, the circus wasn’t in town. We went to Ulta! We love hanging out and trying out all the samples. One of my favorite things is to teach her all the little tips and tricks that beauty contains. It’s one of our favorite bonding activities. Deep down i hope she’ll remember our times together, especially when she starts developing her own style. Here she is trying to figure out how much she has to spend…

After fun runnin’ around town, we all met up again for supper and football. Out beloved Cowboys hit the field after a particularly trying week, but the drama seems to have only fueled their fire. Supper consisted of using a pressure cooker (!) for the first time. Ever. Whipping up a Mississippi roast to make sandwiches…depending on how successful the reviews, I’ll share the info in a later post. Needless to say the smells of supper and the apples cooking are beyond delicious!!
Here’s to your weekend being full of love, relaxation and incredible smells too. How did you spend your Saturday?

Dances, driving, and wives oh my!

Today, I’m a wreck. ¬†Not on the outside…although being Friday morning after a particularly long seeming week, I’m sure I’m looking the part, as well. ¬†But y’all, it’s a big day at the yellow house. ¬†Tonight, my sweet, innocent baby boy is going to his first school dance. ¬†And mama ain’t too happy about it. ¬†Technically, I’m happy he’s growing up into a fine, mature, well adjusted young man and blah blah blah. ¬†Still. ¬†He’s my baby.

There is something to be said for middle school dances that don’t play slow songs (at least that’s what I’ve been hearing. ¬†Possibly a smoke screen put in place by a wise 6th grade boy? ¬†Dunno.), enforce a strict dress code and carry on the tradition of the 50/50 room split. ¬†Boys on one side, girls on the other. ¬†That does little to ease my mind, however. ¬†He’s still my baby. ¬†He’s still too dang young to be going to school dances. ¬†He should be wrapped up in my arms and bouncing around the living room like we did on so. many. nights. of his infancy. ¬†That’s the only kind of dancing he should be doing. ¬† Till he’s at least 42, and then he can dance with his wife. ¬†I won’t mind then.

Seriously though, I’m not¬†I try not to be one of those smothering, level 5 mamas. ¬†They are 12 shades of crazy. ¬†After 4 months straight of dealing with them, I learned first hand of what not to be when I grow up. ¬†I’m really trying to let him go and cut the umbilical cord. ¬†Promise. ¬†Just on my own time table. ¬†Looking back, I think I’m doing a pretty bang up job, although that opinion may be dependent on who ya ask. ¬† But for some reason, this whole school dance idea is hard for me to digest. ¬†First, it’s dancing. ¬†Then they’ll want to stay over at their friend’s houses more. ¬†God forbid the driving part, dating (just threw up in my mouth a little bit), then off to college and marrying some crazy girl who won’t ever be good enough for my baby boy…see. ¬†There you go. ¬†Dancing is just the intro to all the other dangerous things of growing up.

‘Scuse me while I go break it to him that he can just stay home tonight and dance with his mama. ¬†Nobody can love him like I can, anyways.

Bringing it all together + catch up time!

Okay y’all, so if you haven’t yet noticed I took a bit of a break from blogging. ¬†Between getting married, school work, and the circus known as our crazy life, I just didn’t have the time to devote to the page that I wanted. ¬†Lucky for y’all…I’M BACK! ¬†I’m now an honest woman with a Academic degree and time to spend on this blog! ¬†Life has seemingly passed over the last year or so at such a blur that I really needed all of my attention to focus. ¬†And that’s saying a lot. ¬†Getting me to focus on anything these days is no easy task. ¬†So a necessary update is in order.

  • We got married. ¬†Finally. ¬†One of the last updates I made before my long break was the decision to run off and elope, and not to do the traditional wedding. ¬†Well, it worked out wonderfully. ¬†We couldn’t have been more happy with our decision to go to Savannah, Georgia to get married. ¬†We found an incredibility romantic town square and a huge, old oak tree with a ton of moss…the setting couldn’t have been more perfect. ¬†Along with the wedding, we spent the week having a fun and relaxing honeymoon in Savannah, as well. ¬†We were planning on waiting till our 5th anniversary to go back to visit, but something tells me we won’t be able to wait that long! ¬†Here are just a few of our wedding/trip pics…

  • We went on vacations/getaways. ¬†Besides our wedding/honeymoon. ¬†We did Branson for a family trip with my Dad/Stepmom and siblings and families, San Antonio with my mom and siblings and families to celebrate her cancer remission, and several getaways for just the two of us.

  • Best of all though, I got this to happen. ¬†No explanation needed. ¬†us-osu

Well, lest I crash your computer with all the photos, I will do the wrap up here. ¬†There were all kinds of other things that have happened over the year, as well. ¬†Kids graduating (oldest finished high school!?), middle boy started middle school this year and the youngest girl is bummed she just started third grade. ¬†Another surgery for the poor husband has had us practicing our patience, and my bedside nursing skills. ¬†Seriously, we have had so much going on, it’s a wonder I’ve been able to keep my head on straight!

All my best…
